Jonathan M Gransee, Psy.D.
Background
Dr. Gransee has had an interest in psychology since his childhood. Raised in a dysfunctional/toxic family, with social and emotional challenges that persisted throughout his childhood, he entered adulthood full of questions, confusion, and spite. He was driven to find answers and driven to find relief. He dedicated 6 years to United States Air Force in a construction squadron (non-combat), after which he was honorably discharged. The military taught him mental discipline and gave him the strength to begin to face his dysfunctional childhood. Although originally interested in a career in medicine, he chose the path of psychology towards the end of his degree. After backtracking to gain the required credits, he graduated with his Bachelor’s of Science in Psychology at Arizona State University. He worked as a substance abuse counselor at a local rehabilitation center before continuing his studies at California School of Professional Psychology – Sand Diego Campus. Five years of study, which included learning all about the various schools of thought, the various methods of intervention, testing methods, research methods, etc., culminated in a dissertation on dating anxiety. He obtained his Doctorate (Psy.D.) in 2000.
After a year or so of balancing his work as a psych assistant under Dr. Hugh Smith and studying for his licensing exam, he passed and opened his own practice in June 2002.
Dr. Gransee began his career conducting evaluations for children and adolescents being considered for Behavioral Health Rehabilitation Services (BHRS). Then, Dr. Gransee went on to perform evaluations on parents who were involved with Children and Youth agencies.
As well, he began doing disability evaluations for the State of PA, contractually. He branched off into other areas, including traveling around the US giving seminars on Autism and Bipolar Disorder, conducting utilization reviews, etc. However, the focus of his practice, moving forward, was on forensic evaluations.
At this point, and for many years now, Dr. Gransee’s primary focus is on conducting forensic psychological evaluations. The point of his evaluation is to inform the court of the dynamics of the situation, of the relationship between the parents, and about the specific mental health issues of his clients. He has a conversational style, and there are no limits placed on what can be discussed in his interviews. His goal is to always provide a balanced, fair, accurate report. He is a veteran at court testimony and enjoys the interchanges he has with attorneys.
